1. Who do I talk to if I have concerns about my working conditions?
If you have concerns about your working conditions, you can contact any member of the executive board and all information will be kept confidential.
2. What is a grievance and do I personally have to be involved?
Grievance is a procedure to resolve a perceived breach of the collective agreement. It provides a mechanism to enforce the terms and conditions of the collective agreement on the employer. The employee only has to be involved in the first step of the process.
3. Can I do non-bargaining work?
If you are qualified to perform non-bargaining work and it is for four hours or more of your shift, you are entitled to a 20% pay upgrade, as per Article 37 in the collective agreement.
4. Can a non-bargaining unit employee do my job?
Under certain circumstances it is possible, as long as that work does not result in a layoff or a failure to fill a full-time position, as stipulated in Article 6 of the collective agreement.
5. As a CITY employee, should I be doing OMNI work, if asked? As an OMNI employee, should I be doing CITY work, if asked?
Yes, if you are qualified to do it. If you are qualified to do the work and it is for four hours or more of your shift, you are entitled to a 20% pay upgrade, as per Article 37 in the collective agreement.
6. How can I be more involved in the union?
There are a number of ways you can become more involved in the union. You can attend meetings, become a member of a committee, such as the bargaining or health and safety committee, or become a member of the executive board, which is democratically elected from our ranks. Positions of the executive board include President, Vice-president, Secretary, Treasurer, Chief Steward and Health & Safety Officer. You can also attend executive board meetings as an observer or become a steward for your work group.
7. What is the collective agreement?
The collective agreement is a contract between the employer and the union setting out the terms and conditions, which include wages and benefits, for all members. Every member receives a printed copy of the current collective agreement. It is also available online.

You may qualify depending on your employment status as follows:
